06/04/2010 - News Update
Thanks to everyone who has entered the competition. Your support has seen the competition grow bigger and bigger each year.
Unfortunately we’re a little low on manpower for the committee, so the decision has been made to take a year off to re-group
the committee and find some new helpers. This means the competition will be on hold this year.
If you have already started an entry keep it on the boil for next year and if you know anyone who would like to join the committee
and lend a helping hand next year please email Glennys at thecustomersvoice@bigpond.com
In the meantime check into this site from time to time for future updates. If you or someone you know is interested in buying any of
the pieces which haven’t sold please email Glennys at the above address.
Once again thanks for your support and for enabling us to raise much needed money for The Heart Foundation.
A huge thank you to everyone who entered last year. Once again we had a great year and have been able to raise a good amount for the Heart Foundation.
You may have also seen that we received some good media coverage again this year, including pieces in The West Australian and the Channel 10 live weather cross. We are indebted to their continued support.
At the moment we are looking for people to help organize this year. So if you would be interested in helping out please let us know. Contact Glennys at thecustomersvoice@bigpond.com.
Similarly, if you are interested in any of the pieces that haven't sold, please contact Glennys. The more we sell, the more we can give to the Heart Foundation.
Thank you to everyone who entered this year. The winners are:
Overall winner David Rowe for Ahmadinejad
Runner Up Simon Schneider for Clint Eastwood
Student Winner Emily Boyd for Christopher Lee in the Lord of the Rings
Digital Winner Luke Watson for Dame Judy Dench
We are delighted to say the auction has gone extremely well again this year with many pieces being sold.
At present we are arranging collection of these items and once finished we will add ‘sold’ signs to these items on the gallery.
Many thanks again for helping us raise much needed funds for the Heart Foundation.
Winners will be notified shortly.

Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama fight to the finish.
For the first time since its inception, Australia's richest caricature award, The Michael Collins
Caricature Award, was awarded to joint winners. The winners were announced at a gala evening held
at Central TAFE Gallery on Friday October 17th.
The quality of entries was again phenomenal, with a record 89 entries received from over 55 Australian
artists, all in the name of helping to raise funds for Australia's leading heart health charity, the
Heart Foundation.
The joint winners, Matt Adams with an entry of Vladimir Putin and Kindaro Kim with his entry of Barack Obama,
each received a cheque for $3,500 and the much coveted winners title. The Corel student prize of $300 and a
software drawing package was awarded to Michael Ley for his depiction of Condoleezza Rice.
This is the second time Mr Kim has entered the competition, last year he took out the student prize. His win
shows that anyone can win the competition regardless of experience.
On learning about his win, Mr Kim said "I am so excited that I have won and it encourages me a lot for the next
step and my future career. I was inspired and learned a lot through last years exhibition from all the works of
the other artists, and I really wanted to give something back to MCCA in appreciation".
Matt Adams who has also entered in previous years said "Firstly I'd like to apologise for my absence tonight but my
wife has recently given birth to our second child. I'd like to thank the Michael Collins Caricature Award for their
contribution to the art of caricature in Australia. The competition has grown immensely over three short years and
the organisers and sponsors are to be commended. I'd also like to congratulate my co-winner, together we can be proud
that we were chosen from such an incredibly high standard of entries. I'm sure these entries won't have too much trouble
selling at auction and a lot of money will be raised for the Heart Foundation.
Entries will be on exhibition at the Central TAFE Gallery, 12 Aberdeen St, Northbridge until Sunday, October 19th. Gallery hours
1-4pm.
All entries are now up for auction on the online gallery to raise funds for the Heart Foundation. Funds raised helf fight heart,
stroke and blood vessel disease through research, education and patient support.
Winners will be announced at a prestigious awards night to be held on September 7th 2007, at the Central Tafe Gallery in Perth Western Australia. For information about the event or to purchase tickets for the event, please call (08)94451354 or 0419922386.
The 2006 Michael Collins Caricature Awards were an unqualifed success. We received 70 entries from 42 artists across Australia, appeared on the front page of The Voice, received mentions on several radio stations, saw 250 people through the Kurb Gallery and observed frenzied bidding on the website.
In the end, we were happy to be able to hand over a cheque to the Heart Foundation to aid their research into heart defects in children.
